Distillation is used to separate two or more constituents of a mixture that have a different boiling point.

Natural Gas Distillation Process

Distillation uses a reboiled/refluxed distillation tower to drive the vapor/liquid equilibrium to one component or set of components at one end, and the rest of the stream at the other.  A reboiler is used to heat the staged tower with trayed or packed internals with an overhead cooler to create a reflux stream.
